Signs you need this repair

Same day calls tend to come from a door that has stopped working as a door, in one of these ways.

  • A bang from the garage, and now the door will not lift
  • The car is inside and the door is shut
  • One side of the door hangs low and a cable is dangling
  • The door came out of its track and sits crooked in the opening
  • The door is stuck open and you cannot leave the house unlocked
  • The opener quit on the morning you have to be somewhere

How a same day repair visit runs

A same day call is about getting the right parts to the door on the first trip, so it starts with your photo.

  1. You call or text, we read the photo

Tell us what happened and, if you can, text a photo of the springs above the door, the cable ends at both bottom corners, and the label on the opener. From that we can usually tell a broken spring from a cable off its drum, give you the posted price for the likely repair, and pick the parts before anyone gets in the truck.

  2. We set a visit, in most cases that same day

During posted hours, you get a realistic window for the visit, and in most cases it is that same day. When the schedule is already full or the call comes in late, we say so plainly and book you for the next working day rather than name a time that would slip. Tell us if a car is shut inside, because that changes the order of the day.

  3. Make the door safe first

On arrival the door gets secured before anything else: clamped in the track if it is open, unplugged from the opener, and checked for a spring under tension or a cable under load. A door that slipped off its track or hangs from one cable is the riskiest part of the call, and nobody stands under it until it is supported.

  4. Fix it in one trip

With the right parts on hand, a spring, a pair of cables or an off-track reset is finished on that visit. The old spring is measured against your photo before the new one goes on, both cables are replaced when one has failed, and the drums and bottom brackets get checked while the tension is off.

  5. Balance, test and get the car out

The door is balanced by hand, the opener reconnected and the reversal test run with you watching. Then you back the car out with the door working normally, and you get a written invoice with the posted price and the Washington sales tax for your address shown on its own line.

What same day means here

Same day here means a repair the day you call, during the posted hours printed on this page, in most cases. Calls that come in after hours are booked for the next working day.

We say in most cases because some days fill up, and some doors need a part that has to be ordered, such as a discontinued panel or an unusual spring for a heavy wood door. When that happens, the first visit leaves the door safe and closed, and we come back with the part.

Same day repairs are priced from the posted list on this site, before Washington sales tax, and the price for the likely repair comes from your photo before we drive out.

Car trapped or door stuck open: what to do while you wait

While you wait, keep the door still and people clear of it, and these steps cover the two situations behind many same day calls.

  • Pull the opener's plug so a habit press on the remote does nothing
  • If a spring has snapped or a cable hangs loose, leave the door exactly where it is, open or closed, and do not try to lift it by hand
  • If only the opener has failed and the door lifts easily with the release pulled, you can get the car out; if it feels heavy, stop
  • Keep children, pets and cars out of the door's path, especially if it sits crooked or off its track
  • When it will not come down, lock the house door that opens into the garage and take remotes out of the cars
  • Take the photos we ask for: the springs, both bottom corners and the opener label

Which repairs finish in one visit

A single failure can usually be finished on the first trip when the part is known ahead of time, and your photo is what makes it known.

Why ice storms and cold snaps slow same day repair

Same day is hardest to deliver on the days everyone needs it, when doors freeze to the slab and openers strain against them.

The National Weather Service logged freezing rain in January 2024 that glazed the Greater Vancouver area with ice between roughly a quarter inch and an inch thick. On days like that we triage: trapped cars and doors stuck open come first, then everything else in the order it came in.

Distance matters less than the schedule. Calls from Battle Ground, Camas and Ridgefield, or north through Woodland, Kalama, Kelso and Longview, get the same effort, though a late call from the far end of the route may land on the next working day.

What changes the price

The posted same day line is the lowest repair on the list, and the actual bill follows the repair your door needs.

  • A broken spring, priced by its size, and whether both springs are replaced
  • Both lift cables, and any drum or bottom bracket ruined by rust
  • An off-track door with bent track sections or a snapped cable behind it
  • Opener parts priced by model, such as a drive gear set or a new circuit board
  • A second problem found once the door is safe, priced before we fix it

Same day repair: questions and answers

What does same day garage door repair mean for my call?

It means we fix the door the day you call, in most cases, during the posted hours shown on this page. Calls after hours, or on a day that is already full, go to the next working day. We tell you which when you call, so you are not left waiting on a guess.

Can same day repair free a car trapped behind a broken garage door?

Yes, in most cases, and a trapped car moves to the front of the day's order once you tell us about it. Until we arrive, leave the door closed, unplug the opener, and text photos of the springs and cables. With a spring or cable gone, the door is too heavy and unstable to force.

How should I prepare for a same day garage door repair visit?

Clear a path to the door and about three feet on each side, move cars out if the door allows it, and keep pets inside. Text photos of the springs, both bottom corners and the opener label. Have the remotes handy, since we test them after the repair is done.

Which garage door repairs can be finished in a single same day visit?

Broken springs, lift cables, off-track doors and many opener faults finish in one visit when the right part is on hand, and your photo makes that likely. Panels and new doors take two visits, because sections and doors are ordered to your door model and size.

Can I book a same day garage door repair late in the afternoon?

Yes, call or text as soon as it happens. If the remaining posted hours allow a safe repair, we come that day; if not, we book the next working day and tell you how to leave the door overnight. Sending photos early helps either way.

Can a broken garage door safely wait for a same day or next day visit?

Usually, with a few precautions. Lock the inside door from the garage into the house, take remotes and valuables out of the cars, and keep everyone away from the door. Never pull it down by hand once a spring or cable has broken, and if it is stuck open with a car inside, say so when you call.
