Amarr around Clark County

An Amarr on a Clark County house may have come through an installer, a builder's door supplier or a retail order, because Amarr, by its own account, sells only to garage door dealers in the wholesale channel and to online and in-store retailers.

Amarr has built garage doors from 1951 and now belongs to ASSA ABLOY. Its residential range centers on stamped steel, from the plain Lincoln to carriage-house Classica designs and the polyurethane-filled Olympus, with aluminum and glass and custom wood at the top.

Our Amarr work is independent of any Amarr seller. We order sections and parts through supply, size springs to the door you have today, and say plainly when a new door makes more sense than another repair.

Is it a Amarr? How to check

These clues help confirm an Amarr when the outside of the door shows no name.

  • Stamped steel panels in Amarr patterns: two traditional and two modern designs on Lincoln and Heritage, three carriage designs on Hillcrest and Heritage Carriage House, seven on Classica with names such as Tuscany, Valencia and Cortona.
  • Window trim sold under Amarr names: DecraGlass window designs or DecraTrim inserts.
  • A design code on the original invoice, such as RE30 or LP20. Amarr lists its panels and window layouts by codes like these, and the code speeds up a section order.
  • Composite overlay trim on insulated, steel-backed sections points to Carriage Court; a printed plank pattern on a ribbed section points to Northwoods.

Amarr models in local garages

These collections are on Amarr's current list, and the design, layer count and insulation decide which section and which spring we order.

Amarr models common in Vancouver and Clark County
ModelSoldWhat to know
LincolnCurrentValue steel in single, double or triple layer, with optional 1-3/8 or 2 inch polystyrene for R-6.48 to R-9.05. Amarr now offers it in every construction level.
HillcrestCurrentThree stamped carriage house designs on the same single, double and triple layer builds as the Lincoln, with the same optional polystyrene.
Heritage and Heritage Carriage HouseCurrentHeavy-duty 24 gauge steel per Amarr, optional 2 inch polystyrene, R-6.64 to R-9.05. Heavier steel shrugs off more of the dents a ball or a bumper leaves.
ClassicaCurrentSeven stamped carriage designs such as Tuscany and Santiago, polystyrene or polyurethane, R-6.64 to R-13.35. Classica Flush and Classica Full View are separate modern variants.
OlympusCurrentTriple layer only, filled with 1-3/8 or 2 inch polyurethane for R-13.35 to R-19.40. It outweighs an equal-size single-layer Lincoln, so its springs are larger.
Carriage Court and Designer's ChoiceCurrentCarriage doors with composite overlay trim on insulated steel-backed sections. The overlays add weight and fasteners that we check on every visit.

Common Amarr problems and repairs

These Amarr faults turn up in Clark County garages, each with the repair that fixes it.

  • One stamped section creased by a car or a ball

If Amarr still builds the model and it is not a custom design, we order a single section by design code, width, layers and color, then fit it on a return visit. Garage Door Panel Replacement, from $445

  • The door turned heavy and the opener strains or stalls

Amarr notes that broken or worn springs make the door heavy and overload the opener. Leave the opener off; we replace the torsion springs as a sized pair and adjust the balance until the door holds at halfway. Garage Door Spring Replacement, from $245

  • Dark streaks on the door or floor below the springs

Amarr traces those marks to the oil coating on torsion springs. A tune-up wipes the springs down, lubricates springs, rollers and hinges with a non-silicone product as Amarr recommends, and checks balance. Garage Door Tune-Up, from $135

  • A lift cable loose or frayed at the bottom bracket

Amarr tells owners to leave cables to a professional. We unload the springs, replace both cables, look over each drum and both bottom brackets for corrosion, and wind back to balance. Garage Door Cable Replacement, from $185

  • Loud, jerky travel on an older single-layer door

Worn steel rollers and cracked hinges are the usual cause. We fit sealed nylon rollers and new hinges by number, which steadies the door on its track. Garage Door Roller and Hinge Replacement, from $195

Matching an Amarr section on a tract house

A matching Amarr section is possible when the model is still in production and the design is not custom, which covers stamped steel lines like Lincoln, Hillcrest and Classica while they stay on Amarr's list.

The order names the design code, layer count, insulation, width and color. Amarr warns that paint color drifts over time, so a new section beside panels that have taken years of rain and summer sun can look a shade off. On a street where HOA rules govern door color, plan for that before the order goes in.

If Amarr has dropped the design, we price the closest current section and a whole new door side by side.

Why Amarr says to leave springs and cables to a pro

Amarr doors counterbalance on torsion springs, lift cables and drums held under heavy tension, and Amarr tells owners not to remove, repair or adjust springs or cables themselves.

We size replacement springs to the door as it hangs today, picking the wire gauge, coil inside diameter and length that carry its weight. A door that has picked up a heavier section or added insulation may no longer suit its original springs. In a damp Clark County garage we also look hard at bottom brackets and cable ends, where rust takes hold first.

Repair or replace an older Amarr?

Keep an older Amarr when the trouble stops at springs, cables, rollers or one dented panel. Replace it when several sections are damaged, the design is discontinued, or rust has eaten through the bottom section.

Many Battle Ground houses date from the 2000s, with a median build year of 2003, so their original doors are reaching the age of first spring changes and worn rollers. That is usually a repair, not a new door.

Questions from Amarr owners

How do I find out which Amarr model is on my garage?

Match the panel pattern and windows to Amarr's collection list, then look for a design code on the original invoice. Lincoln and Heritage use traditional and modern stamped panels, while Hillcrest and Classica carry carriage designs. A photo of the full door face, a close shot of one panel and a tape measure across the section height tell us the rest.

Can a single Amarr section be replaced, or do I need a whole new door?

One section can usually be replaced if Amarr still makes the model and it is not a custom design. We order it by design code, width, layers and color, then fit it on a second visit. Expect a possible color difference on an older door, which Amarr itself mentions, and plan around it if your HOA is strict.

Who services Amarr garage doors near Vancouver, Washington?

We do, across Clark County and up I-5 to Longview and Kelso. Searches for Amarr service often bring up shops in Vancouver, British Columbia, so check the state before you call. We repair Amarr springs, cables, rollers and sections on the Washington side only.

Why are there black marks under the springs on my Amarr door?

They come from the oil coating on torsion springs, which Amarr names as the cause of those streaks on the door and floor. The marks are not a sign of failure. Wash them off with a mild detergent, never one mixed with bleach, and keep the springs lightly lubricated once a year with a non-silicone product.

Should the cables be replaced when an Amarr spring breaks?

Often, yes, because the cables have usually run as long as the springs and the bottom brackets may be rusting. When a spring snaps, the sudden jolt can also kink or fray a cable. We inspect both cables, the drums and the brackets while the springs are unloaded, and replace the cables if they show wear.

Is an older Amarr door with rust along the bottom worth repairing?

If the rust is surface deep and the other sections are solid, yes: a new bottom section or bottom seal and retainer fixes it. If the steel has rusted through on several sections, or the design is no longer made, a new door usually costs less than chasing parts. We show you both prices.
