We repair Skylink Atoms and side mount openers across Vancouver, WA and Clark County, and we sort out Skylink keypads and universal remotes added to other makes, starting with the small receiver Skylink fits at the wall button.

Skylink around Clark County

Skylink, established in 1990, runs a sales office in Mississauga, Ontario, a US distribution center in Ontario, California, and its own factory in Vietnam. Its brands include Atoms for openers, and most of the range is built for owners to install.

A Skylink in a Clark County garage can therefore be a whole opener ordered online, or just a keypad or remote added to an opener of another make.

Skylink's universal pieces bring their own receiver. Instead of learning the opener's radio, a kit fixes a small receiver over or beside the wall button, and that receiver works the opener through the button's circuit, which is why one keypad can serve many makes.

Is it a Skylink? How to check

Look first for a small box at the wall button, then read the model numbers on the remote and the motor unit.

  • A small receiver fixed over or beside the wall button, a sign that a Skylink universal keypad or remote kit was added to an opener of another make.
  • Remotes with 318 in the model number, such as the MK-318 keychain, the GG-318 visor clip and the HB-318 car button.
  • A backlit keypad under a weatherproof cover that runs on a single AAA battery, as the KN-1 and KN-318 do.
  • An Atoms motor unit on the ceiling with an LCD wall console, which lets the opener be set up from the floor.
  • A compact side mount box on the wall at one end of the door, from the G2 family.

Skylink models in local garages

Skylink publishes model numbers but not production years, so these rows group what its store and manual library list.

Common Skylink problems and repairs

Each Skylink complaint below has a usual cause and a repair page behind it.

  • The keypad ignores every code for a while, then works again

Ten wrong codes lock a Skylink keypad for 10 minutes. If it stays dead after that, we fit a fresh AAA battery, re-enter the code and check the receiver it talks to. Garage Door Remote and Keypad Programming, from $105

  • Add-on remotes stop working while the wall button still does

The receiver at the wall button has lost power or its connection. We replace the MF-318's two AA batteries or fit Skylink's adapter, then reseat the wires. Garage Door Remote and Keypad Programming, from $105

  • An Atoms opener reverses or refuses to close

The ID-001 safety sensors near the floor have lost alignment or a wire. We realign or replace the pair and confirm the door turns back when it meets an object on the way down. Garage Door Safety Sensor Repair, from $125

  • A Skylink opener strains on a door that has grown heavy

We pull the release, check balance by hand and replace worn torsion springs, so the opener is moving a door rather than lifting it. Garage Door Spring Replacement, from $245

  • An older Skylink unit with a failing motor or board

Skylink's store lists sensors, consoles, remotes, rail kits and batteries. When the motor or board is the fault, we check for the part and price a replacement opener beside it. Garage Door Opener Installation, from $545

Skylink keypads and remotes reach an opener in one of two ways, through the opener's own Skylink receiver or through an add-on receiver at the wall button.

Because the add-on receiver joins the wall button circuit, it works the opener the way a press of the button does. A newer opener with a multi-function wall console is the case to ask about: send us a photo of that console, and we confirm the receiver has a plain circuit to tie into.

A G2 side mount fits a sectional door with about 2 inches of headroom and 5.2 inches of side room where it mounts. Skylink rates it for single doors up to 14 feet high and doubles up to 180 square feet.

It also needs a receptacle within reach of its 4 foot cord. We plug into one that is already there; a new receptacle means an electrician and a permit before the unit goes up.
